Dear God – Please protect my friend Sean, returning to Afghanistan

Dear God,

It is with a most humble and open heart I ask you to please place my friend Sean under your special protection. As you know, Sean has been living and working in the most dangerous place on Earth, the border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. God, please protect Sean, who is living and working among our most dangerous enemies. I ask especially that you protect him from the most dangerous enemies of all – those enemies who appear to be friends. God, you know Sean’s heart and he loves his job. He is good at it; well respected, and he loves the mission so much that he has asked to stay in Afghanistan an extra year to continue to carry out these most dangerous duties. God, Sean works under the most difficult circumstances imaginable. Long days, constant enemy harassment, and the threat of real danger. He is a brave man willing to sacrifice everything for this mission that he believes in so much. I am honored to know him and be his friend.

God, Sean is a very faithful servant to you. He shines an inner light. It is because of him I have recently returned to prayer. I have seen his devotion to you and to the Blessed Virgin Mary it has inspired me so much. Sean is a special person and I love him in a way that only you can understand.

Please God, I ask you with every fiber in my being, every atom of my body, and especially, to the very core depths of my soul, please protect Sean. Protect him from all harm, both physical and mental; protect him from the dangerous enemies that are all around him. I ask humbly for you to guide his steps, for him to be safe, so that he can excel at his most important work that keeps all of us safe.

God, you know my heart, I give up this prayer unselfishly, and in the hope that Sean will not be harmed during this tour in Afghanistan, or in the next one, which he has already volunteered for. God, Sean is a good man, he truly believes in you and what he is doing for our country. And God, I believe in Sean.

Lord, you know my heart, and you know that the week I spent with Sean in Ireland recently was the most special week of my life. I have loved him, and been drawn to him since we first met in March 2008 in the gym at work. As a woman, he is the kind of man that we would all hope for in our lives: Brave, Strong, Spiritual, Fearless, Hardworking, and above all, Principled. God, I have loved Sean from far away for years and will continue to be his friend. If only his heart could know how I have been praying for him without me being the one to reveal it to him.

God, I love this man so much. I love Sean with all my heart and soul and being. He is a inspiration to me and an example of what it means to be a Christian. He has inspired me to seek out Christ and through this path I hope to also become a better person.

God, I humbly beg, please keep Sean safe when he returns to Afghanistan from this R&R he is on now. There are no words to describe how my heart feels.

In closing, I humbly ask, dear God, the Immaculate Virgin Mary, all the angels and saints, please protect Sean, keep him from harm, that he may continue his important work, and return home alive, well, whole and happy, and that he may live to grow old, have a family, and be blessed with a long life. I pray this, even if it is not to be with me. I pray unselfishly for Sean, giving my whole heart up to God as I do so.

My heart has been opened; my tears fall so fast and many down my face as I give up this prayer. I pray God, for Sean’s life, that he may have his wits about him at all times, that he may never cease being vigilant; I pray that you guide his judgement and his work, and that he stays safe.

God, I love this man with all my heart. Please keep him safe today, and all days, but especially when he returns to work in Afghanistan.

I pray these things in the most humble, unselfish, and open hearted way possible. God, you know my heart and you know what is in it. Please protect Sean. I love him so very much.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
